I can feel my mother turning in her sleep due to all the 70's posts. She takes every possible opportunity to inform me how 'in bad taste' her youth was, apart from punk (she takes great pride in regaling me with the story of seeing the cover of NME in the 80's and soon after sticking safety pins in her ears). Yes polyester and Vesta meals it may have been Mummy, but it was also about awesome Californian tan lines and Farrah Fawcett's hair! Anyway it's time to hit the tanning booths in your bikini!

Usually my DIY's have horrendous effects or disappointing results or, like most things I try and make, it gets left unfinished. However you can't really half dye your hair and then leave it, unless your going for a Cruella Deville crop, so this creative commitment had to be seen through, it was the ombre-fying of my hair.

I'm not ready for Meadham Kirchhoff colour spectrum locks. Plus I do not want people to think I roll round Dalston in ripped clothes and take legal highs. Edgy but well groomed, intelligent but light hearted. Or just generall scruffy which I seem to pull off effortlessly.

I like the end results which makes a change from my 'projects'. What's next, cutting my own hair?*

Since growing out my high maintenance heavy signature fringe in preparation for Peru and then having all the split ends chopped off post-Peru it's now a very non-event mid length. Technical colours and tricky styles are either too hard to maintain or more than my rent to fund the upkeep of such a do. But ombre hair seems to be easy to do, maintain and get rid off should you get bored of it


It's en trend to have a messy bleach job. Bleach London, a hair salon recently launched inside the infamous WAH Nails bar in Dalston, is dedicated to such styles and even incorporating mint greens, midnight blues and hues of lavender into the dip dyed tips, nothing is too much for head stylist Alex Brownsell.

Ooh but £60 for a bit of bleach? I just don't have that kind of cake to splash around. Lily, from LLMLRS whom I came across while Googling, did a DIY tutorial on how to get ombre hair for the price of a packet of hair dye. And I think you'll agree it looks pretty ace...
